About me
Hello everybody!!!  My name is Jessica Salcedo but you can call me Jess, my background is oceanography which mostly focuses on biological and environmental fields. Currently, I am a Masters student of Ecological Marine Management ECOMAMA in Vrije Universiteit Brussels, in Belgium.
How did I end up studying this?......Well, I can say that is partly because I am a big admirer of Jacques Cousteau's work and the fact that I grew up in a small coastal town. I have always had a passion for the oceans and the biodiversity it mantains, and during my bachelor this passion was extended to estuaries and my active involvement in environment preservation.
Now I am trying to make my contribution to the preservation of the marine ecosystems and the resources in it.
Research Experience
I have been working in different areas like: Identification, isolation and cultures of phytoplankton and zooplankton, culture and counting of bacteria, determination of filtering rates and its influence in food webs, analysis of meteorological and oceanographical data, studies for shore protection, fisheries port construction and beach recovery. Also, I have been involved in enviromental impact assessments and environmental auditories.








Here you can download my curriculum, the poster "Estimation of rotifer filtration rate on different phytoplankton species as the basis for a food web model" that was published in the book of abstracts of The American Society of Limnology and Oceanography in 2007 and the abstract of my bachelor Thesis "Determinacion de la tasa de filtracion de Brachionus rotundiformis "(in spanish).
